hitting puerto rico straight on the category 4 hurricane slam ming puerto rico with 155- mile per hour winds. fox news steve harrigan on the ground in san juan. steve what's the latest? >> reporter: an island of 3.5 million people in u.s. territory, and all 3.5 million right now according to officials without power. the conditions have eased a little bit, winds below 50 miles per hour but the rain is still falling, but at least now first responders and police can go out to try to begin to assess the damage and help those who urgent ly need it. earlier in the day we saw fierce winds whipping through here enough to snap the trees behind me enough to knock walls down, pieces of the hotel behind me off. it was just whipping around. right now, we see electrical crews go out as well. off and on foot there's so much debris in the roads it's simply very hard to get around, with downed power lines and downed trees so they're really trying to assess things even by foot

unsophisticated and doesn't understand the nuances of what the u.n. does? you know, there's nothing that people love more than being patton the held and told that you just don't understand. this is exactly one of the reasons why president trump is president trump because they are tired of liberals and politicians and the elite class telling them what's best for them and what they should or shouldn't know and do and they're just tired of it. i think it's a huge insult to the american public but this also empowers president trump because americans voted for this kind of president, that kind of courage, that kind of the truthfulness. you know, rocket man is a very serious situation when you play with fire you get burned and that's exactly the warning this president was saying. >> liz: katrina, this msnbc remark about voters been unsophisticated about the u.n., does the trump voter get the " nuances" to not protect americans in other words nbc host like stephanie ruehl,

should they go to syria and see how fist it indicated the u.n. was when they did not protect these people from genecide there or how sophisticated it was when it did not protect women and children from the united nations peace-keeping forces doing things like sexual assault? >> do you know what liz? there are a number of cases that you can point out to show just that. just look at the mission statement alone in the united nations whether it was formed and ask yourself. is it living up to their own mission statement and you don't have to have a college degree or even an advanced degree to read a mission statement and to know if they're doing what they said they were going to do, so i do believe you know she deserves americans an apology. >> liz: bill clinton getting back to this point bill clinton and obama also said what president trump said that the u.s. would retalliate against north korea under their administration. let's take a listen. >> it's pointless for them to try to develop nuclear weapons because if they are using it, it would be the end of their country. we couldn't obviously destroy

the bill and i think that would be a step better than what is the currently constituted obamacare. >> liz: the reason i brought up the president's approval ratings possibly going up that could help basically" it friday republicans to do things like reform of obamacare and maybe even tax reform but congressman, you have house minority leader nancy pelosi again using high person oily to attack reform as middle class families costs continue to go up. let's listen to how nancy pelosi described this latest bill. >> i think he has a really good chance to stop it in the house, because it does such serious violence to healthcare of people in california, new york and other places. >> liz: serious violence? >> i mean, i think she's so far off base, but that should again get more backbone to republicans

to vote for it. her opposition is a good reason for republicans to vote for it. look if we could just get republicans to vote republican, it would actually pass, but again, the first vote is the procedure. should the senate debate this or not. there's no reason why any senator should vote no on that. from there they can offer amendments, they can try to push through other things but let's at least have the debate and discussion and the ultimate vote >> liz: switching gears senate republicans tentatively agreed to $1.5 trillion. this is a plan on tax cuts. what do you think. do you think we get tax cuts by the end of the year congressman? >> i will be disappointed if they don't do tax reforms. i think we campaigned on it. it was a golden opportunity in time. i hate to give up on it. if the fallback is a tax cut that will be better, but the part of the discussion i haven't heard that we have to be discussing are where are we going to actually cut spending? because if you don't actually cut spending, then you just perpetuate this problem and we're going to have to up the spending to take care of florida and puerto rico and louisiana

when rates were hiked we had a recession according to analyst david rosenburg. what do you think? >> oh, i font think so in this case. i think interest rates are so very very low elizabeth. if you'll have a good solid strong recovery you need a tip shield of treasury inflation protect and security, real interest rate of 2.5-4% which means you'd have to have a 10 year t-bond in the range of 6%, you know 4.5-6%. we're nowhere near that right now so i'm not worried about that. what amazes me elizabeth if i may is given the hurricanes coming through, the earthquakes happening, the north korea problem what's happening in venezuela, all of these problems and the stock market still keeps going up and up. this country of ours, elizabeth, is primed for an enormous expansion. if we can get the tax bill through, repeal of obamacare, we will just go and fly like an eagle in the sky. it will be just amazing.

>> liz: joining me now contributor for the washington examiner giannaxe coldwell. good to see you. gianna, what do you make of the difference in tone between these two speeches? >> well you know what i always had a personal issue with the way president obama delivered that speech. i thought that it was too apologetic for our values. now i'll say although i sometimes i have issues with president trump and i'm vocally provider of those issues but i thought this was presidential. honestly i think he made the country in my view proud that we stood strong we're protecting our values obviously democracy is something that we believe very much in and on the point of what he said about north korea. look we're going to protect our allies or wipe you out pretty much is what he said and i think that something has been missing in this country the fact we're going to stand strong. we are the ones that the world looks to in times of need. especially when north korea has continued to send rockets as

president trump calls them rocket man over to really irritate and potentially scare our allies, so i thought that was a pretty good strong tone the president took. >> liz: wendy we have other news with president obama expected to get a $400,000 paybay for wall street speech from the same so-called fat cats president obama once criticized let's listen. >> i want to be clear. we're not trying to push financial reform because we begr udge success that's fairly earned. i do think at a certain point you've made enough money. >> liz: made enough money. wendy hillary clinton apologized for her wall street speeches and hillary clinton said bernie's criticism led to her crooked hillary nick name from president trump. can the obama and democrat party afford to stay close to wall street if they hope to win over more supporters? >> well they have to have a narrative and a narrative that's consistent. i think that's really important

for the american people. we want to make sure what we're hearing from our politician is something they stick to both when in office and out of office and just a point to the comment a little bit earlier. we have to understand the president of the united states is the most powerful man in the world and earlier we had president rohani come on and say his words were not only hateful but demanded an apology so while it's okay to have an america first approach we can't do that and alienate ourselves from other world powers. you can be america first and still be diplomatic at the same time. >> he hasn't got much of anywhere. we've been working with the u.n. there's so many sanctions on north korea it hasn't made a difference so at this point you need to know north korea if you don't stop this is what your actions are going to get you. >> liz: president trump was basically repeating what hillary clinton, bill clinton and obama said if north korea uses its nukes that the u.s. will retall rate. trump was in line with that. stick with us we'll have more from you after the break. we have this story for you

do that? those were his words and i said as long as we know why we're doing it, i don't have a problem with kneeling. i felt like it was a good teaching moment for me. >> liz: let's bring back the political panel janet coldwell and wendy osefo. our soldiers get paid a tenth of what cold en cap and the nfl football players they get their legs and lips shot off and they would be lucky to get the compensation and the care that they deserve. do you feel these kids are being influenced wrongly by these nfl players? >> you know, that's a good question and i certainly respect anybody's ability to protest but is this the right time? i'm protesting the nfl at this point but in fairness i've been protesting since i was born since i don't watch sports but on a more serious point, i think that there's a time and a place for everything. colin kaepernick i'm not sure where this ends, where does this get us as a country. do we, does this inform the

police to somehow stop things that which we know is a small fraction that have abused their power? does it stop them? i'm not sure it does so yeah this is influencing these youth. i don't even think they really know why they're kneeling. it's just something that seems to be a fairly popular thing at this particular point. >> liz: recent polls show, wendy , that the nfl fans don't like politics coming into the game and it comes at a time wendy when people are more and more cord cutting and getting rid of their cable tv, just doing streaming. i mean, the nfl charges billions of dollars for these nfl games. is this a business issue for them now? >> it is a business issue, because people are not watching the nfl for two different reasons. one, they're protesting it because some people believe that collin can needs cap needs to be in the nfl and others protesting because they feel like there's too much politics however at the end of the day they have to decide which line they are going to sit on and about the kids who are kneeling i'm a mother of a four year old and two year old
